Post-Italy 1840-1843
Completing the catalog
This is a special collection; with this publication, all of Fanny Hensel’s finished, extant solo piano works are available as free PDF scores online.
Hensel’s trip to Italy in 1839-1840 was a pivotal experience for the composer, during which she was creatively stimulated and taken seriously as a composer by several young artists she befriended in Rome. Upon returning to Berlin, she resumed her domestic life and music activities. These works were written in that period between 1840-1841, some possibly as late as 1843. She seemed to be very happy with many of these pieces and most would eventually be published, repurposed, or included in an album for Felix.
